Updated: Feb 17

Grease and grime that are stuck on can make your pots appear aged and used, but you don't have to discard them! Using this straightforward homemade cleaning recipe, you can bring back the original shine of your pots. This natural solution is simple to make, budget-friendly, and remarkably effective—even for eliminating grease that has built up over years.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup baking soda

  • 1/4 cup white vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon dish soap (use a toxin free Brand)

  • 1/2 lemon (optional, for extra grease-cutting power)

  • Hot water

  • Non-abrasive sponge or scrub brush

Instructions

Step 1: Hot to Make the Cleaning Paste

  1. Combine the baking soda and dish soap in a small bowl to form a paste.

  2. For additional degreasing power, you can optionally add the juice of half a lemon.

Step 2: Apply the Paste

  1. Apply the cleaning paste liberally to the greasy spots on your pot.

  2. Let it sit for 15–20 minutes to allow the paste to break down the grease.

Step 3: Scrub the Pot

  1. Scrub the pot in circular motions with a non-abrasive sponge or scrub brush.

  2. For persistent stains, apply a bit more baking soda directly to the spot and scrub once more.

Step 4: Add White Vinegar

  1. Drizzle a little white vinegar onto the paste.

  2. It will start to fizzle - this reaction assists in removing grease and grime from the surface.

Step 5: Rinse with Hot Water

  1. Rinse thoroughly with hot water to removing all residue.

  2. Dry with a clean towel.

Why This Works

  • Baking Soda: A natural abrasive that removes grease and dirt without scratching your cookware.

  • Dish Soap: Efficiently dissolves grease and oils.

  • Lemon: Enhances cleaning effectiveness and imparts a refreshing fragrance.

  • White Vinegar: Combines with baking soda to break down stubborn grease and eliminate stains.

Tips for Best Results

  1. Pre-Soak Before Washing: For heavily greasy pots, immerse them in hot water with a few drops of dish soap for 10–15 minutes prior to using the paste.

  2. Steer Clear of Abrasive Tools: Opt for a non-abrasive sponge to prevent scratching your pots, particularly those that are non-stick or stainless steel.

  3. Repeat if Needed: For persistent grease, repeat the process until the pot is thoroughly clean.
